Bank keyboard with cheque reading

AKC127-C Bank Keyboard with Integrated Cheque (Check) Reader

Cheque reader keyboardThe AKC127-C multi-function keyboard is designed for use at retail bank teller positions where integrated motorised MICR reading is required, increasing the speed and accuracy of cheque reading at the teller position. Additional integrated functionality is available including optical character (OCR) and magnetic swipe card (MSR) reading capability. The integration of reading capability into a programmable keyboard helps to optimise operator efficiency and reduce counter-top clutter.

The AKC127-C is available in US 104-key and 105-key language variations. In addition to the fully programmable full-Windows® keyboard keys, over 20 keys are available for dedicated teller functionality.

Programmable Keys

Each key is fully programmable using Access’ SoftProg configuration utility. Once completed, the configuration can be downloaded to the keyboard’s non-volatile memory or sent to Access for keyboard configuration in production.

Custom Keysets

Custom keyboard layouts, keytop colours and legends are available to customer specification, significantly improving operator efficiency. Adjacent keys can be combined to make double or quad keys and keys can be disabled using a key-switch lock-out cover.

Reliability

Access products are designed to withstand years of use in demanding applications. The AKC127-C uses a proven mechanical base design structured around a steel sub-frame. High reliability mechanical key switches are used which have a life in excess of 50 million operations.

The cheque transport mechanism is designed to be both quiet and reliable. Cheque transport is by means of a proven, high-reliability drive belt mechanism including a high-quality gearbox and sealed ball-bearings.

MICR decoding takes place using a robust Japanese MICR read head and Access’ proven recognition engine. The use of a high performance RISC low-power ARM microprocessor decoder provides sufficient processing power to implement digital filtering of the MICR signal and a rapid decode.

Service and Maintenance

Accessible cheque reader mechanismRemovable covers on the top of the keyboard allow access to the cheque reading drive components. Once the covers are removed, the mechanism is open and foreign objects such as staples and paper clips can easily be seen and removed. All gearing, wiring and components are fully enclosed protecting the device from damage. Torn or damaged transport-belts can be replaced without the use of additional tools.

To simplify scheduled maintenance of the keyboards, the magnetic head and transport mechanism can be removed by releasing two captive screws. The mechanism can simply be lifted through the top of the keyboard and replaced. Mechanism change time is less than five minutes.

Encrypted boot loader software allows MICR controller firmware revisions to be loaded via the USB interface, greatly simplifying software upgrades through the life of the product.
