Access check-in keyboards create revenue opportunities for US Airways

Access IS wins US Airways keyboard order

Reading, UK, November, 2008 – Access, the data input technology company, has won a $900,000 contract to supply keyboards to US Airways for their domestic and international check-in locations. Access will supply two types of keyboard. The first was developed specifically for US Airways check-in and has an integrated credit card reader, which allows the airline to create new revenue streams by enabling check-in staff to collect fees by credit card payment for checked baggage and for in-flight services, such as meals and drinks. The second will be used for international check-in and has an integrated optical character reader (OCR) to capture passengers’ passport information and a magnetic stripe reader (MSR).

US Airways is the fifth largest US carrier.  The keyboards will initially be used at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. Deployment will then be rolled-out the remainder of the US Airways network.

US Airways’ CIO, Joe Beery, said: “With customer service as our most important consideration, we had to find robust keyboards that will give long-term, totally reliable operation at our check-in desks. Access’ ability to demonstrate this in its products, and its willingness to develop a price-competitive product that specifically meets our requirements, meant that they offered the best value proposition by a significant margin.”

Access’ US Sales Manager, Mark Summers, added: “Access’ products are already found in many airports throughout North America. The speed at which the airline business is changing creates challenges for everyone supplying products into it. Access recognizes the need for flexibility in the design and functionality of its products and specializes in rapid customization to meet specific customer requirements. Our willingness to listen and adapt was, I believe, the critical factor in winning this order from US Airways and this is the first major step in our becoming the preferred supplier of data input devices to US airlines.”
