Boarding Gate Reader Smooths IATA Transition

BGR120M ATB2 and 2D BCBP

Reading, UK, November 6, 2006 - Access announces the BGR120M boarding gate reader for airports making the transition from ATB2 magnetically encoded passes to the new 2D bar coded boarding passes (2D BCBPs) under IATA’s “Simplifying the Business” initiative.

The BGR120M is the industry’s first product to be designed from the outset to read both types of boarding passes, greatly simplifying and accelerating passenger processing. It combines a motorized 4-track ATB2 reader and a high-speed, omni-directional bar code imager.

Intuitive to use, it has a two-line user display with bright LED indicators and a user-programmable sounder to provide clear operator feedback. To further simplify operation, home-printed boarding passes and 2D BCBPs are read face up. The near-zero latency imager will read a bar code as soon as it is held in the bright target zone. The BGR120M combines ease of use with very fast read times.

It complies with IATA ATB2 722C format T1, T2, T3, T4 and AEA2002/PECTAB requirements and reads Aztec, DataMatrix and QR symbologies as well as PDF417 and linear bar code symbologies.

Twin magnetic heads allow ATB2 documents to be read in either orientation and the straight through document path minimizes the possibility of jamming. A wide range of emulations is available for connection to Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE®) or dedicated systems. A single RS232C interface connects the device to a workstation.

To ensure that units are future proof, new firmware can be remotely downloaded into the units. Physically, the reader is rugged, compact and lightweight with overall dimensions of 9.3 (D) x 8.0 (H) x 5.0 (W) inches (235 x 204 x 128 mm).
