$1 Million Contract at Heathrow Terminal 5

BGR for Heathrow Airport

Reading, UK, July 24, 2007 - Access IS, the specialist in data input devices for electronic systems, has been awarded a $1 million contract to provide keyboards, boarding gate readers and bar code scanners for Heathrow’s Terminal 5, which is due to open in March 2008.

The order is for over 1000 devices with initial deliveries taking place less than four weeks from order, allowing extensive trials prior to full commissioning.

Eventually every check-in position and boarding gate will use Access products. Terminal 5 will exclusively use a combination of home printed boarding pass documents and airport printed boarding passes with 2D PDF417 bar code symbology.

Access BRG120S and LSR120 bar code reading devices were selected following the successful roll-out last year at Heathrow’s other terminals where they were used to read bar coded boarding passes (BCBPs). Both the keyboards and boarding gate readers take up minimal desk space and are designed to provide fast and easy processing of documents to cut check in and boarding times for passengers.

Access has a long track record in supplying data input devices, including check-in keyboards to Heathrow airport. The company’s managing director, Roger Wylie, commented, “The Terminal 5 concept is to optimise the travel experience of the passenger and efficient passenger processing. We understand the important role our equipment has in the efficient handling of the passenger and are delighted to have been awarded this contract based on the operational speed and reliability of our products.”
