Detachable Latching USB Cable Simplifies POS Keyboard Installation
Reading, UK, April 12, 2007 – Customised, ultra-compact POS keyboards from Access are now available with a detachable powered USB cable. By fitting a latching cable connector to both ends of the cable, installation is made faster and easier and log-term connection reliability is improved.
Unlike a standard USB connector, the powered USB plug cannot easily be pulled out of the system unit. Access use a recessed latching RJ45 type connector in the rear of the keyboard. This allows the keyboard to be replaced, if necessary, without disturbing cable routing, which means that replacement can be carried out by the operator rather than service personnel. Custom cables are one of the many options available in the Access flexible POS keyboard range.
There is a wide range of different layout formats, including models with a touchpad integrated mouse and MSR or EMV credit card readers. All keyboards are constructed with high quality switches with a rated life of more than 50 million operations. SoftProg32 Windows configuration software enables users to design their own layouts. Key positions can be programmed to have a single character or string of characters. Adjacent keys may be combined to provide double and quad keys. Keys may also be disabled using a key switch lockout cover. Cool white and dark grey case colours match industry standard peripherals. Access provides a configuration service to customise keypads with special key top layouts, colours and legends.
