Swipe and Park Keyboards Have VISA PED Approval for Offline Transactions with Plain Text PIN
Access' new POS keyboards with integrated Dione (Verifone) swipe and park reader have gained VISA PED approval for off-line transactions with Smart cards with enciphered and plain text PIN.
Managing Director, Roger Wylie commented "Cards issued in the UK operate with Plaintext PIN and VISA require approval of the Plaintext element of the Offline certification. Working with Dione we have achieved this much tougher requirement than VISA Offline Approval for Enciphered PIN. There is great confusion in the market regarding this issue as other vendors make VISA compliance claims for use with cards which won't be in circulation in the UK. It is therefore essential that retailers confirm the VISA Offline accreditation against the issued certificate or the Lab Report for each device for a pass against Plaintext PIN."
Access' product combines a robust standard keyboard with a Dione EMV Level 1 & 2 swipe and park card reader and are targeted at demanding applications in Bank Teller and Point of Sale applications. The PIN pad is connected directly to the Swipe and Park module and the integrated keyboard connects directly via a single cable to the POS system.
Many leading retailers believe swipe and park will keep the costs of retraining staff to a minimum and help the introduction of EMV Chip card payment to be seamless to their customers.
By swiping a credit card through the reader it is possible to read 3 track MSR encoded data as well as locate the card securely into the smart card receptor and complete an EMV payment transaction by reading the Chip. Cards with only a magnetically encoded data can also be processed in the same reader without relying on the operator to distinguish between card types.
The keyboards are compact and occupy no larger footprint than a standard compact keyboard. There is an option to fit an integrated, strong pointing device. Access provides a pre-configuration service to customise their keyboards with special key layouts, colours and legends.
