Multi-function reader is first to capture data from all passenger media in airports

Access IS NewsletterThere has been a quiet revolution taking place in airports over the last three years, and this has created headaches for gathering data at check-in, security, in duty-free shops, lounges and at the boarding gate. As a result of introducing Internet check-in and mobile ticketing, a wide range of documents and cards need to be read at the various stages of a passenger’s transit through the airport.

Access have released the LSR130, a compact new device that integrates up to four data reading devices for use at airport check-in, lounge, duty-free and security counters, providing a low cost and tidy alternative to discrete devices.

The LSR130 is the first airport device to read all media commonly presented by passengers in airports and integrates a 2D barcode imager and a manual four-track magnetic stripe reader, with options for OCR passport and e-passport reading. The device offers fast and accurate reading of home-printed boarding passes, mobile phone barcodes, ATB2 documents, credit cards, frequent flyer cards, passports and ID travel cards, and e-passport biometric data.

The unit measures just 218L x 210W x 150H mm and can connect to the host computer with a single RS-232 or USB cable, making the it easier to install and maintain, while reducing desk clutter. When reading boarding passes from mobile phones, PDAs or paper, the LSR130 reads the barcodes face-up, which is the fastest and easiest way for an agent to present a barcode. A large document throat allows barcodes to be read from any position on a printed A4 page. Audible and visible indicators confirm that data has been read successfully.
