Nike America enhances customer service with Access keyboards

Access IS NewsletterAccess has supplied 1,000 keyboards to Nike America for use on point-of-sale (POS) checkout tills across all their USA stores. Access has been supplying multi-lingual POS keyboards to Nike Europe since 2001 and proven reliability was a key factor in securing the US contract. To enable faster and more accurate data entry and streamline customer service, Nike specified a customised variant of Access’ AKC114 compact programmable keyboard. Features include a bespoke keyset and key code encoding, and a detachable cable for easy installation and swap-out. Connection to the host system is via a powered USB connector to provide positive latching that prevents accidental removal of the cable. The elegantly-styled keyboard complements the set of peripherals chosen by Nike and carries the Nike logo to support the well-established brand on the retail counter.

Long-term reliability in this demanding POS application is assured by the keyboard design, which features a strong internal steel chassis and Cherry MX switches under the two-shot moulded keys. Nike required a tight installation schedule. Access responded by shipping the order within 4 weeks. The compact keyboards measure 293mm by 187mm, saving space at the till.
